The kimono is a traditional clothing in Japan and is worn by men and women of all ages. The design of the kimono varies to reflect the season, age, sex and maritial status of a person. In Japan young, unmarried women (like the senshi) would wear a colorful kimono with sleeves that hang to the ankles. In the summer women ang girls wear kimonos called yukatas. Most yukatas are navy blue and white but girls may wear brightly colored ones. Naoko Takeuchi included many pictures of the senshi dressed in kimonos in the artbooks.
Also in episode 103 on the anime the senshi are shown wearing yukatas matching their senshi color.
