Rating for this chapter: PG-13 (for mild language) ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Deep in the darkness of the Negaverse, Queen Beryl continued her search for dark energy and the legendary Silver Imperium Crystal. As she stared into her ball of energy, her window to other dimensions, she came across a familiar, yet unusual feeling. She saw a face she once new, only it was joyous and full of light. "What?! That face!," she screamed. "IMPOSSIBLE!" Her screams were heard by Zoisite, who returned promptly from her search for the Silver Crystal, and Malachite, who was scouting for bases on various planets, bases which had enough dark energy to strengthen the armies of the Negaforce. Zoisite and Malachite stood together, alarmed. Zoisite was the first to speak. "What is wrong, my queen?," Zoisite asked, afraid of the answer. "Take a good look at what's wrong!," Beryl scolded, and Zoisite leaned in to look. "NO! Nephlyte?! Alive?! That's impossible!," Zoisite screamed. "You told me he was dead!," Beryl shouted, enraged. "I don't understand. I saw the thorn enter his chest. There's no way he could have survived. I told my youmas to finish off him and his girlfriend!," Zoisite said trying to defend herself. Then she gasped as a thought crossed her mind. "It must have been those pesky Sailor Scouts!" "So, it appears, Zoisite, that you too have underestimated the Sailor scouts and let them get the best of you," Beryl said, with disdain. "Those rotten Scouts! I'm going to get rid of them as soon as possible, even if I have to kill them all myself. But first, I'm going to destroy that cursed traitor, Nephlyte!," Zoisite screamed in anger. "Save your anger and your breath, Zoisite," Beryl said, calming down. "I have a plan that could turn this situation to our advantage." Zoisite became silent, but continued to grit her teeth. "If those Sailor Scouts did save him, they must have some connection. He must know a lot about them...who they are, where they live, everything." Zoisite gave a sly grin at this, catching Beryl's idea. "If we could turn him back to our side, not only would we gain back an ally, but we could get a hold of some useful information." "But how can we turn him back?," Zoisite panicked. "Silence!," Beryl continued. "There's more. There is also the possibility that he may have given the Sailor Scouts useful information about us. We cannot take that risk." Zoisite remained silent, awaiting Beryl's orders. "This is what you must do, Zoisite. You will seek out Nephlyte on Earth. When you find him, tell him that I have decided to give him another chance. If he accepts, bring him before me so that I may fill him once again with dark energy." At this, Zoisite became angry and tried to hold back her restlessness. "However," Queen Beryl continued. "...if he refuses, he is a traitor and must be disposed of. You must kill him before he can say anything to those meddling Scouts! I'm counting on you Zoisite." "With all due respect, my queen," Zoisite stammered. "...must i be the one to confront him? This would delay our finding of the Silver Crystal." "YES! Because it was you who failed to get rid of him the first time. Never question my orders, or you may share his ill fate." "I apologize," Zoisite whispered, bowing. "Very well," Queen Beryl responded. "You are dismissed." Zoisite dissappeared in a gust of cherry blossoms. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Minutes later. Zoisite's chamber. "I don't understand, Malachite!," Zoisite cried. "Everytime I try to please her, she gets angry with me." "She just doesn't want youto step out of line," Malachite replied. "You've got to learn how to hold your tongue, Zoisite." Malachite looked at her sternly as he spoke. Zoisite looked back at him with a pair of ashamed eyes. Malachite changed his expression to a warm grin. "Come now, none of that," he said, lifting her chin, trying to comfort her. "What are the odds that he is actually going to turn back?" Zoisite smiled. "Oh, Malachite," she swooned as she embraced him. Malachite held her head to his chest and stroked her hair. Zoisite gave an evil grin and thought, "I'm going to enjoy tearing that traitor apart, from his insides out!" ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Later that evening. For Molly's 15th birthday, Nephlyte decided to take her out to dinner at a fancy restaurant of her choice. Molly picked a place in Downtown Tokyo called, "Dragon Moon." Darien let Nephlyte borrow his car so they wouldn't have to bother with the annoyance of taking the bus. Nephlyte drove up to the apartment building in Darien's car and parked it across the street. As he got out, he felt his heart beat faster and his palms sweat. He wore a dark green polo shirt and beige khaki slacks. He carried a bouquet of pink posies in his left arm, thanks to Darien's advice. Nephlyte held his breath and knocked on Molly's door. When Molly answered the door, Nephlyte nearly jumped. She stepped out wearing an emerald green evening dress, long, with wide tank straps, empire waist, the top made of velvet, the skirt made of soft satin. Her neck and face were accented with gold jewelry. Her face lit up when she saw the bouquet of posies. Nephlyte blushed as she smiled her bright smile. "Thank you so much," she said with glee, as she hugged Nephlyte tightly. "Uh, um...your welcome. I'm glad you like them," Nephlyte stammered. "What is it with humans and plants?," he thought to himself. Nephlyte's hands lightly stroked the velvet of of Molly's dress. "It's pretty," he said. "Where did you get it?" "It was a birthday gift from my friends. They all pitched in and got it for me. The jewelry is from my mom," she replied. Then she noticed Nephlyte flinch. "What's wrong?" "Nothing," he replied. "I guess I was just spellbound by your beauty." Molly just smiled back. "Let's go," Nephlyte whispered. A chill filled Nephlyte's body as they drove to the restaurant. He could feel negative vibes following him. Finally, they arrived at the "Dragon Moon." Once Nephlyte saw the joy on Molly's face, he forgot all about the weird vibes. The inside of the reataurant was exotically decorated with fountains and large tropical plants. Molly and Nephlyte were seated next to one of the fountains. After they ordered, Molly could see that Nephlyte was nervous, as usual. He had been very quiet since he first picked her up that night. Finally, Molly said, "So how is your new job?" "Well, it's not the most fun job," he replied. "Mostly, I just clean up after all the professors. But, what they don't know is that after I finish, I check out all the equipment and explore around the Observatory. I get to look through the telescopes, I read a lot of the books lying around, I even go on the computers to find the exact location of stars and track the paths of asteroids and comets." "Sounds great," Molly said. "Yes, it is," Nephlyte agreed. "But the best part of all is the view from the observation deck. You can see the entire city and a full sky of stars from there. Sometimes, I even stay till the early morning just to watch the sunrise." Molly was entranced by his words. "It must be wondrful, Nephlyte. I wish I could see that sometime." Nephlyte thought for a moment. "Let's do it," he said. "I'll take you to work with me sometime. Then you could see the stars all night long and watch the sunrise. That is if you don't mind me cleaning up first." Molly's face lit up. She wanted more than anything to spend a whole night with Nephlyte, especially in a beautiful setting. "Really, Nephlyte?!," she squealed. "I would love that!" She nearly jumped out of her chair and ran over to hug him. Nephlyte blushed as they caught the attention of other restaurant patrons. "Whew," Nephlyte sighed. "After that, I think I need to go wash my face. I'll be back in a minute." In the bathroom, Nephlyte felt his nerves rising again, making him break into a sweat. As he washed his face, he started to think about the excitement on Molly's face and it made him smile. After another rinse, he looked up at the mirror, and saw the one face that he least wanted to see again! ZOISITE! "Hello, Nephlyte," she sneered. Nephlyte spun around. Without even a second going by, Nephlyte's fist flew towards Zoisite's face. It was stopped abruptly by a huge blast of negative energy. "I knew would do that, so I just had to be prepared," Zoisite said. "A force field," Nephlyte gritted. "Very clever Zoisite. Afraid to use your own skin?" "Foolish human," Zoisite laughed. "And that's what you are now, isn't it?" "Maybe I just don't want to waste my power on you." "Maybe you don't have any power left." "Then why am I not dead yet?," Nephlyte challenged. Zoisite laughed her evil annoying laugh. "Ha ha, if I was going to kill you, Nephlyte, you'd already be dead." "Then what do you want from me?," Nephlyte asked. "It's not what I want. I want you dead. I've come with a message from Queen Beryl. She has decided to give you another chance, since you served her so well...before you failed. You can return to the Negaverse, be filled with dark energy, and be reinstated as a general, under myself and Malachite of course." "That's insane, Zoisite," Nephlyte said in disbelief. "You underestimate me if you think I'll just give up the life I've established here, just to go back to be Beryl's slave! I can't just give up my job." "And you can't just give up Molly," Zoisite sneered. "You leave her alone, you bitch!," Nephlyte threatened. "Come now, Nephlyte, nobody said this was going to be convienient," Zoisite laughed. "Let's just put it this way...if you refuse, you die. And Molly dies too." Nephlyte was silent. He wanted to use all the energy within him to strangle Zoisite right there. But he knew Zoisite had dark energy powers that he no longer possessed. "Think about it for a while, Nephlyte. Think about how much Molly REALLY means to you," Zoisite said as she dissappeared in a cloud of cherry blossoms. Nephlyte blinked several times to make sure it wasn't a dream. He looked back into the mirror and saw that he was sweating even more than he had before. He was breathing heavily. The frustration overcame him and he slammed his fist into the paper towel holder. He took a few minutes to calm down and wash his face. He didn't want to upset Molly, especially not tonight. Finally, Nephlyte emerged from the bathroom. Molly looked worried as she saw him come towards the table. "Is everything alright?," she asked. "Yeah," Nephlyte whispered, sitting back down. "I guess my face was dirtier than I thought." "You're lying," Molly teased. "But we don't have to talk about it now if you don't want." "Thanks, Molly." "Now eat up before your food gets cold," Molly scolded, joking. This made them both giggle. Nephlyte tried to eat in peace, but he could still feel the cold darkness around them, as if they were being watched. After dinner, Nephlyte drove Molly back to her apartment and walked her to her door. "Thank you very much, for a wonderful evening," Molly said. "Don't mention it," Nephlyte said, kind of looking away. He played with Molly's fingers in his hand. "Um, Nephlyte...," Molly stammered. "Um, I don't know why, but I kinda got this creepy feeling as we were driving home from the restaurant. My mom is out of town for the week, and...well I'm kinda freaked out. I don't know what it was..., but I think I'd feel a lot safer if you would stay here with me tonight." Nephlyte looked at her for a moment, and then embraced her. "Of course," he said. "I'd be happy to." Nephlyte had to admit that was exactly what he was thinking. "Thank you," Molly said as she leaned in. Molly went to her room to change into her pajamas, and Nephlyte immediately went to the phone. Above it, he found a list of phone numbers and dialed Serena's number. "Hello," she said. "Serena, this is Nephlyte." "Nephlyte?! Hi! Is everything okay? You sound like you're going to panick." "Not really. I need to speak with you and your friends, the other Scouts, as soon as possible." "Um, okay. Do you know where the temple on Cherry Hill is?" "Yes." "Well, we're having a meeting there at noon tomorrow. You should meet us there." "Okay. Thanks, Serena. It's really urgent." "It is? Okay, well then, make sure you are there." "I will be. Thanks. Bye." "Bye Nephlyte," she said, hanging up. "Gee, I hope he's okay," she thought. Nephlyte raced into the living room before Molly could come back out. He sat himslef down on the couch and attempted to calm himself, so as not to make Molly suspicious. Molly came back out with some pillows and blankets. "You can sleep on the couch if it's not too small." She set the blankets down on the floor, next to the couch, and sat down next to Nephlyte, leaning against him. Nephlyte wrapped his arms around her waist as she leaned her head against his chest. Suddenly he realized he was feeling bare skin. He moved his hand to reveal the spot on Molly's pajamas that was torn away. Molly looked at him. Nephlyte blushed. "Uh, um...sorry." Molly just laughed. "It's okay. Geez Nephlyte, you're so cute when you're shy!" Nephlyte laughed too. "You still wear these?" "Of course. I wouldn't sleep in anything else. These are my favorite." "Yeah, mine too." "What was that?" "Nothing." After many long minutes of silence, Molly looked at Nephlyte to find him fast asleep. She got up off the couch and covered him with a blanket. Nephlyte half-opened his eyes and mumbled, "Molly..." "Shh," she responded, before planting a small, but firm, kiss on his lips. "Good night." Nephlyte faded back into sleep. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ The next day. Cherry Hill Temple. "Zoisite!," the girls panicked. "That's right," Nephlyte mumbled, regretfully. "They know I'm alive, and Queen Beryl wants me to go back to the Negaverse. She'll probably turn me evil again, which is why I won't go." The Scouts looked at each other in silence. "What? You don't believe me?! I would never go back, now that I know how important a real life is. But Zoisite said that if I refuse, they come back to kill me, and then they'll kill Molly." "It's okay, Nephlyte," Luna comforted. "We believe you. And I think we can help protect you and Molly both. I've been making compact commuication watches for our scouts as we search for them. It helps the girls find each other in an emergency. I'll let you keep one with you for now, until we can think of a better plan to protect you. If you are in danger, call us on the communication watch and we will come help you since you have no way to defend yourself against their dark powers. Do not try to be a hero and fight them off yourself. Contact us immediately!" "Thank you," Nephlyte said. "We will do all that we can, Nephlyte, to make sure you and Molly can be happy," Raye comforted. "Thank you all, for everything. If there is anything I can do to help you with your mission, I'd be happy to." ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
